More about this list
Nothing has to be paid at the places on this page, as their own listings state. The Stadtbibliothek Köln runs two free series for children from eight: Wir spielen Schach in the Mülheim district library on the first Tuesday of the month and the SchachXperten in Chorweiler about once a month, both with registration. The Tuesday chess evening of the university sport service, held during lecture periods with an International Master present, costs students and staff nothing.
The Sonic Chess Club evenings at Otto Cannoli combined chess and music with free admission, the yearly park tournament in the Grüngürtel is played in the open air without an entry fee, and in Königswinter a private initiative invites players to a free meeting in the Knusperhäuschen, with boards and pieces provided.
