On Thursday evenings the Kölner Schachklub Dr. Lasker 1861 holds training for advanced players and for beginners, followed by rounds of its club cup. Schachverein 1925 Hürth-Berrenrath meets from half past seven with tournaments of various kinds and invites visitors to drop in, and the Verein Rheinbacher Schachfreunde 1948 plays from half past seven after youth training, with a blitz tournament on the first Thursday of each month.

Earlier in the day, residents of Riehl gather for a chess group in Haus H of the Sozial-Betriebe-Köln on Boltensternstraße. In Königswinter a free meeting takes place in the Knusperhäuschen on selected Thursday evenings, and the Sonic Chess Club evenings of chess and music at Otto Cannoli fell on Thursdays as well.
