More about this list

Clubs carry most of the chess in the region, and many of them field teams in the leagues of the Schachverband Mittelrhein. Cologne’s list runs from the Kölner Schachklub Dr. Lasker 1861 and the Klub Kölner Schachfreunde 1967 near the centre to Worringen in the north and Porz in the south-east, by way of Müngersdorf, Longerich and Rodenkirchen, with the Ford Schachfreunde, Roter Stern Köln-Mülheim and Satranç Club 2000 among them. Many clubs hold a yearly open of their own, such as the Ford Open, the Müngersdorf citizens’ tournament or the Horrem rapid tournament.

Bonn has the Godesberger Schachklub 1929, Schachclub Bonn Beuel and a club that grew out of the city administration, and Leverkusen has clubs in Opladen, Schlebusch, Wiesdorf and Hitdorf. The Rhein-Erft towns add Kerpen, Hürth, Brühl, Pulheim, Bergheim, Erftstadt and Bedburg, the Rhein-Sieg towns Troisdorf, Siegburg, Hennef, Lohmar, Königswinter and Rheinbach. School chess working groups appear in this list as well; they are for their own pupils.
